Wir haben Maria bereits sehr in unser Herz geschlossen und freuen uns auf die gemeinsame Zeit, die noch vor uns liegt.
On the 13th of September a new family member arrived! No, we have not become grandparents, but "parents" of a 17 year old daughter *laugh*. Maria Ignacia from Santiago de Chile will enrich our family for the next year. We were looking forward to this day for a long time. Our office is now a childs room again and our every day life has turned upside down. Being a host family is quite challenging: Will we make a match? How homesick will she be? Will we be able to understand each others thoughts and feelings? These are only few of many questions we had. Luckily we can communicate in English and Maria learns German very fast. She already understands a lot. Hopefully she is not that homesick anymore. It is a big step for young people being away from home such a long time and so far away. And we, the host family, have to leave our comfortzone to see our own culture with other eyes and discover a new one. Together we will all learn a lot during this year. We already love Maria and are very happy to have her with us.
